Alongside counselling, I have experience and training in parenting neurodiverse, traumatised and ‘looked after’ young people.
When working with parents who are experiencing troubling teenage behaviours, I aim to help you raise your parental presence in their lives. I can show you how to avoid unhelpful battles by finding a position of strength, from which you can prevent yourself giving in to unreasonable demands.
We start by changing the behaviour of the adult, not the child. Yet we know this will ultimately lead to better behaviours from them. De-escalation techniques, striking while the ‘iron is cold’ and reconciliation by gestures of love can help you re-gain the freedom to parent again.
